Custom Document Builder and Editor

Manage the custom rich-text documents displayed across the site — create new documents, edit or delete existing ones, format headings, lists, and links, and embed content like Google Forms, then place them on any page using the one-document-post-display shortcode.

Custom Document Builder and Editor

Click for Editor Instructions

Use this page to create new custom documents, edit existing ones, or delete documents you no longer need. Custom documents can contain formatted text, headings, lists, links, and embedded content such as Google Forms. Completed documents are saved as SQSA Documents and can be displayed anywhere on the site using the document display shortcode.

Modes

  • New Document
Create a new custom document from scratch. Enter a title and write your content in the editor below it. Click Save Document when done.
  • Manage Document
Load an existing custom document to make changes, or delete a document you no longer need. Select the document from the dropdown, then click Load Document → to edit, or 🗑 Delete This Document to remove it. Deleting moves the document to Trash — it can be restored from Trash in wp-admin if needed.

Working in the editor

  • Visual tab
The default editing view. Shows your content as formatted text. Use the toolbar above the editor to apply formatting.
  • Text tab
Shows the raw HTML of your document. Use this tab to paste or edit HTML directly, including iframe embed codes. Switch back to Visual when done to see the formatted result.
  • Formatting toolbar
Available in Visual mode. Use the style dropdown to set text as Paragraph, Heading 2, or Heading 3. Use B, I, and U for bold, italic, and underline. Use • List and 1. List for bullet and numbered lists. Use the Link button to wrap selected text in a hyperlink. Use Clear to remove all formatting from selected text. Standard keyboard shortcuts also work — Ctrl/Cmd+B for bold, Ctrl/Cmd+I for italic, Ctrl/Cmd+U for underline.
  • Embedded content (iframes)
If a document contains an embedded iframe — such as a Google Form — it appears as a placeholder in Visual mode showing the embed URL. Click the pencil (✎) button on the placeholder to reveal a text area where you can edit the raw iframe HTML. Click Done to apply your changes or Cancel to discard them. To add a new iframe, switch to Text mode and paste the embed code directly.

Saving

  • Save Document
Saves all changes to the current document. A confirmation message will appear when the save is complete.
  • Document Title
Required. Every document must have a title. The title is used to identify the document in the Manage Document picker and in the admin document list.
  • Create / Edit another
Appears after a successful save. Resets the editor so you can start a new document or edit a different one.
  • ← Choose different document
Returns to the document picker without saving. Any unsaved changes will be lost.

Important notes

  • Changes are not visible on the live site until the document is saved.
  • If you switch from Visual to Text mode, the raw HTML shown in the Text tab reflects the current Visual content including any placeholder replacements. Edits made in Text mode will be reflected when you switch back to Visual.
  • The document type is set to Custom automatically when saved from this editor. Do not change it in the admin document list.
  • Formatting applied in the editor (bold, italic, headings, lists) is preserved when the document is displayed on the site.
  • Deleting a document from Manage Document moves it to Trash, not a permanent delete — it can be restored from wp-admin if needed.

What this editor does not control

This editor manages document content only.

  • Where the document is displayed on the site — see "How documents are placed on pages" below
  • Whether the document is shown collapsed or expanded — that is set in the admin document list under the Collapsed column, described below
  • Uploading or embedding images — use the Text tab to paste an image tag or contact the site administrator
  • Creating or managing PDF documents or table documents — use the respective editor pages for those
  • Making layout, styling, or website design changes

If you need any of the above, please contact the site administrator.

How documents are placed on pages

Saving a document here does not automatically make it appear anywhere on the site. A document only shows up on a page if the page has a shortcode pointing at that specific document.

  • The one-document shortcode
Wherever a page should show a specific SQSA Document, the page's layout contains a [one-document-post-display] shortcode identifying that document directly — usually placed by the site administrator or developer inside a Code/Text module in Divi. Each shortcode points at exactly one document, using either its ID ([one-document-post-display id="123"]) or its slug ([one-document-post-display slug="my-document"]).
  • Multiple documents on the same page
There's no shared "list" to manage anymore — to show more than one document on a page, the administrator simply places another [one-document-post-display] shortcode wherever the next one should appear, each pointing at its own document. Two documents right after the page's Hero and a different one further down the page are just three independent shortcodes.
  • If a document isn't showing up
Either no [one-document-post-display] shortcode on that page points at this document's ID or slug yet, or the ID/slug used doesn't match this document. Ask the site administrator to add or fix the shortcode on the correct page.
  • Collapsed vs. expanded
In the admin document list (SQSA Documents), each document has a Collapsed column. Set to "Yes," the document displays with an Open Document button and stays hidden until a visitor clicks it. Set to "No," the document displays fully expanded right away. This can be changed using Quick Edit directly from the document list. An administrator can also force a specific placement to always be open with no toggle at all, using always_open="1" on that shortcode.
  • Section styling and buttons
Administrators can show an "Open in New Tab" button and/or a Print button for PDFs, customize the wording of the Open/Close buttons, and set the CSS class used for a given placement's section. These are settings the administrator controls at the document or shortcode level — they are not part of this editor.

If a document isn't appearing where you expect, or you'd like its placement or collapsed/expanded default changed, contact the site administrator.
