Local ISI & USFS Competitions
Local ISI and USFS competitions give SQSA skaters opportunities to perform, compete, and grow throughout the season. ISI competitions provide a fun, supportive introduction to competition, while USFS competitions offer a more structured, nationally recognized pathway for skaters pursuing higher-level goals. With events held throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota, skaters can participate at a level that matches their experience, confidence, and ambitions.
SQSA Parade's Offerings
SQSA Parade skaters have opportunities to participate in both ISI and USFS competitions. Each path offers valuable experience, but they serve different goals and levels of competition.
ISI Competitions
ISI competitions are a great introduction to skating performance and competition. They are typically more recreational, supportive, and beginner-friendly, making them a strong fit for skaters building confidence and learning how competitions work.

- Often based on ISI skill levels
- Supportive, low-pressure competition environment
- Great for first competition experiences
- May include freestyle, interpretive, team, and fun event categories
USFS Competitions
USFS competitions follow the structure of U.S. Figure Skating, the national governing body for figure skating. These events are typically more formal and technical, and are a good fit for skaters pursuing a more advanced or competitive figure skating path.

- Connected to U.S. Figure Skating testing and competition levels
- More structured judging and technical standards
- Good for skaters developing long-term competitive skills
- May include freestyle, showcase, dance, and specialty events
Which Path Is Right?
